RISE PLUS / STATUS 8 OCTOBER 2026
Your own reading, read aloud.
For $8.99 a month, an ElevenLabs voice reads the text you bring to RISE, and the reading follows the voice’s timing. Built against a mocked vendor; not released, not for sale. This page takes no payment.
WHAT IT IS
The voice is the clock.
Reading in RISE is free and stays free. The reader-owned AI connection (your own key, hosted Jev) and local Kev are not a trial of Plus; they are the product. Plus adds one voice and nothing else.
RISE paces a text through time. With Plus, a word appears on the screen at the millisecond the recording says it, not on RISE’s own timer. It works on your own material: a Composer Current, or an imported text of up to 10,000 characters per voicing. The voices are ElevenLabs Flash v2.5 premade voices; you choose one of five.
HEAR THE CLOCK
Press a line. The words arrive as the voice says them.
RISE paces words through time; Plus lets a voice set that time. This is the same clock in miniature: your browser speaks a public-domain line, each word appears on the onset the speech engine reports, and the field behind this page pulses once per word.
Browser voice, free, on your device. Plus uses an ElevenLabs voice rendered once; same clock.
Nothing leaves the browser: the line goes to your device’s own speech engine and no request is made. No text field, no form.
HOW IT IS BUILT
One receipt, one cookie, one render.
No accounts. A Stripe receipt becomes one signed cookie in your browser that names your subscription. To voice a reading, your browser sends its text to the lab’s Worker, which sends it to ElevenLabs on the lab’s account and returns the audio to your browser. The Worker keeps no copy of your text or of the audio; the audio lives only in your browser. For each subscription the server keeps one number, the characters voiced this billing period, and asks Stripe before every voicing that the subscription is still active. Voicing the same text again on another device, or after Erase, uses the allowance again. A daily cap across all subscribers bounds what the lab can spend. You choose among five voices.
Your email goes to Stripe once. The text you voice goes through the lab’s Worker to ElevenLabs once per voicing. The lab keeps neither; it keeps a character count per subscription and nothing else.
If the subscription lapses, the next phrase reads silently at its authored pace and a one-line notice says “Plus voice has lapsed. Reading continues silently.” Nothing else changes.
How the price was set: $8.99 covers a full month’s allowance at the vendor’s list price (105,000 characters at $0.04 per thousand, $4.20), Stripe’s fee ($0.62), and the rest to the lab, so one reader at full use costs the lab nothing.

What the allowance buys. The Worker meters 105,000 characters a month. A Composer Current is about 3,000 characters, so 105,000 ÷ 3,000 = 35 Currents. A printed book page is about 1,800 characters (300 words of six characters, spaces included), so 105,000 ÷ 1,800 ≈ 58, about 60 pages of a book, or about two hours of speech. Past it, the voice stops until the next billing period; reading continues. The count is of characters sent to the voice, and voicing the same text again counts again.
STATUS · 8 OCTOBER 2026
Where it stands.
- Decided
Accepted by the owner at $8.99 a month on 8 October 2026; the ledger entry is pending admission. The proposal is RFC 0001, MasterMind pull request #29.
- Built, not released
Built against a mocked vendor and mocked Stripe, unit-tested, not run in a browser against the Worker: the Worker gate and voice route, the app’s claim page and Sound setting, and the legal text, as draft RISE pull requests #541, #542, #545 and #546, all drafts.
- Not yet shown
No reading has been rendered on the vendor. The owner listens to one before anything is sold.
- Not for sale
No payment is taken on this page.
Reflects the MasterMind and RISE repositories on 8 October 2026. What changes next: the first real render on ElevenLabs and the owner’s listen. If it passes, this page says so and the price goes live the same day.
